Importance of Growing More Trees
Points =[Introduction- usefulness of trees- effect of deforestation –conclusion]
A Chinese proverb says ‘Planting a tree is better than having nine sons’. It means that a tree can provide better service to man than nine sons can provide. Indeed it is impossible for human beings to survive in this planet without the help of trees. Man and trees are inseparable. Man was born in the cradle of trees. We are aware that our ancestors lived and breathed in the forest, got their food and shelter in the forest.
Trees and plants produce oxygen (O2) through the process of photosynthesis. They use sunlight to convert water and carbon-dioxide into oxygen and carbohydrates. We need oxygen for our survival. Thus, trees act as the natural air-purifiers. They issue us timber which is utilized for making of houses, compartments of the train, enormous boxes, and so forth. They also provide many essential items of life like- medicine, oil, fuel, shelter, etc.
Scientists have argued that for the development of healthy life a country must have 33% of its area covered with forest. But greedy man has destroyed it to a great extent. Felling of trees has a relationship with the occurrence of natural calamities. Trees prevent soil-erosion and protect against draught and desert. They prevent flood. Trees give off moisture and cool the atmosphere.
The hunger for agricultural land, hunt for timber and necessity for cheap fuel caused massive deforestation. At some places, trees are being destroyed even today. The West Bengal Government Forestry Department distributes saplings free of cost in every ‘Van Mahotsab week’ to increase the number of trees. Above all we should plant more trees to save biodiversity and eco-systems.
